Handmade Wool Mittens (Heartfelt Giving Charity Item)
This year we want to do more to giveback to our rural communities. Each month we will offer an item that has all profits going to a local charity. We begin this program with eight handmade wool mittens by Illinois based folk artist Valerie Weberpal. I’ve known Val for years through her work with Earth Angels Studios. As soon as I saw the viral Bernie Sanders mitten memes I thought of Val and knew we had to do something for charity. She has created eight pair. $15 of every pair sold will go to the local food pantry.
Valerie's mittens are warm, long, wonky, and all handmade, using a hand tracing for a pattern. Mittens made from upcycled, felted wool sweaters....all are unique and one of a kind. They are unlined, and fit high above the wrist, so they stay tucked inside your sleeve. They fit a small to medium hand and wrist. They are hand wash only, line dry. However, if you want them to felt up tighter, wash in the machine, and line dry. Even though they are felted (pre-shrunk), because they are wool, they DO continue to shrink with washing, so use caution.
